90 Points

Thursday, February 19, 2009 - I was expecting more than what this bottle showed. Dark ruby with almost no signs of age. Dark berry and forest floor aromas. Medium body with good acidity and a smooth, but not silky, mouthfeel. Well structured with powerful dark fruit, earth and spice flavors, but with what I thought was a slightly unpleasant vegetal/herbaceous component -- almost like it was picked slightly underripe. Without the vegetal flavor I would have rated this wine in the low to mid-90s, because everything else about it was very good. Tasted like a much younger wine and probably has several years of life remaining.
