Sunday, February 27, 2022 - At first seemed monolithic, dark sweet fruit without much depth - almost artificial in flavor, reminded me of grape bubble gum, which was puzzling to find in this 19 year old wine; however, with a few hours in the decanter, the nose brought tertiary aromas to the party, and the flavor profile also gained some depth, although the fruit did retain a pruny quality to it. Hard to gauge which way this is going. Maybe my bottles have been cooked or they're not ready. Certainly don't seem oxidized but don't seem young and fresh either - very little in the way of tannic structure, although acid seems to be holding up well. Based on what I'm reading from other CTers, either aged petit sirah doesn't jive with me, or my bottles are off.

I'm gonna go with a longer decant on the next bottle. Give it at least a couple hours.
