2007 E. Guigal Ermitage Ex-Voto

Friday, April 24, 2020 - Oaky at first, but that faded with air. It's a surprisingly elegant and accessible Guigal but not as complex as I'd hoped. Certainly more varietal characteristics such as pepper and a little meatier than the 2007 Chave Hermitage I had last year (that wine was frankly a big disappointment). It shares some red fruitiness that Chave had. 2007 seems a bit like a baby 2005. Fruitier than other vintages and less complex, but not as bold as the 2005s. I could see upside from aging (I certainly hope so). I'm not sure this wine deserves the lofty accolades it has received, though that opinion covers pretty much ever Guigal wine I've ever had (and have had quite a few La Las).
