Still too young. Decanted 1,5 hours in a wide decanter. Temp 18C. Too much initial oak, this takes over. Needs more time for integration. Food balances this a bit, the wine itself became better after 3-4 hours. Among the top Hermitages I have tried this is not my personal pick.

Show impressive complexity and vibrancy. Notes of meat, spice, earth, and oyster shells on the nose. The pallet is supple and still showing surprising youth and freshness at the end with a peppery complex long finish. Excellent quality very happy.

Absolutely fantastic wine - decanted for several hours beforehand based on coravin from night before. Still very crisp and needs time to integrate; will buy more and not touch for 5-10 years

Coravin - great notes of dark, wet red fruit. Tons of acidity but it is not overpowering - truly an incredible wine that you can tell will last for 20-30years. Will drink this bottle for New Year’s Eve celebration

I tasted and noted this 30 months ago. It has developed and seems like it will continue to do so for 7-10 years. Consistent with my prior notes, with a little more wet rust and iodine than before. After 6 hours, it holds together and shows lots of white pepper and spice. Also, a longer finish. Paired very well with pecan wood grilled maple and coffee rubbed quail, and spicy coconut forbidden fried rice. I have one bottle left, and seeing it’s evolution, I expect it to peak in about 5 years.

Oaky at first, but that faded with air. It's a surprisingly elegant and accessible Guigal but not as complex as I'd hoped. Certainly more varietal characteristics such as pepper and a little meatier than the 2007 Chave Hermitage I had last year (that wine was frankly a big disappointment). It shares some red fruitiness that Chave had. 2007 seems a bit like a baby 2005. Fruitier than other vintages and less complex, but not as bold as the 2005s. I could see upside from aging (I certainly hope so). I'm not sure this wine deserves the lofty accolades it has received, though that opinion covers pretty much ever Guigal wine I've ever had (and have had quite a few La Las).

This was a lovely, youthful wine - beautiful color, nice nose, and very mouth coating with a finish. This is a wine that should have been decanted (a mistake that I will not repeat) - to give it a chance to really express itself. But, it was really good right out of the bottle and gave a beautiful 1995 Leoville Las Cases a run for WOTN.

Dark mahogany red, with a nose of sappy red currents, beeswax, garrigue, crème caramel. Midweight, yet palate-coating. Flavorful but not sweet, with substantial acidity and a polished tannic structure. Very long finish.

Wonderful nose: game blood, black licorice, blueberry pie, bourbon barrel, something briney too, like squid ink pasta and tinned cockles. Rich and concentrated, blood soaked black gravel, penetrating, turns creamy and lush, but without much specific delineation. Still, unmistakably Northern Rhone. A steely, surprisingly short finish. Great with grilled ribeye, 24 hrs. rubbed with blue cheese and black pepper.

Big, concentrated, powerful, round and deep, the dark fruit matches the equally dark hue. Lush and long, the wine serves up layers of dark red fruits, licorice, smoke, earth and peppery spices. The fruit and tannins are so ripe, it is easy to drink young, but do not let that fool you. The wine is still primary and needs another decade to further develop, before it gets to the secondary stage of life.

Splash decanted and consumed from a Reidel Syrah stem. Highly perfumed nose with suggestion of dark violets, pine, wintergreen, and mint everywhere. Subtle hints of lard and bacon fat emerge with time. Full and creamy on the palate with fresh dark cherry and blackberry. Few ( if any ) secondary/tertiary notes to comment on in this youthful state. Clearly has a decade or more ahead. Tannins are soft and pliant. An expressive and true to form example of Hermitage Syrah.

Miam ! Il reste costaud mais il sera grand dans 10-15 ans ! 17.5/20 +

Disclaimer: a friend bought this because it was shipped in the heat and it leaked some. The nose is almost creamy after the initial funkyness blew off. Some cherries under there. The palate is deep and reminds me of what i think of when someone says volcanic rocks. Minerally and a sense of embers. Very young obviously but a very good wine.

Red 2007 Guigal Masterclass (Stockholm): Dark red colour, some purple. Powerful nose with quite dark berries, powerful concentration of aromas, tar and liquorice, some leather, noticeable but well integrated oak, some flowery notes. Palate with powerful concentration, dark berries, noticeable acidity, quite powerful - almost massive - tannins. The aftertaste is long, fruity and tart. Young, reasonably approachable. 94+ p Not entirely unlike La Turque, but a bit more in the massively fruity direction. Ex Voto and La Turque are more similar than La Turque and La Landonne!

Needs decanting for about 2 hours to reveals aromas of red fruits, as berries (esp. wild strawberries) cherries and currants. Also scents of rose petals and oaky vanilla. Full bodied with oily texture and still harsh tannins. Flavors of tar, leather, cedar, prunes, cherries and saturated oil smoke. Very long and deep finish. Excellent wine to keep for at least a decade.

Powerful aromatics packed with blackberry and black cherry liqueur, crushed stone, smoke, licorice, coffee, crème de cassis and vanilla get your attention. This thick, viscous, flamboyant wine is a head turner. Silky, polished and richly textured, the finish is packed with layers of perfectly ripe, pure blackberries. I love this style of wine!
