Sunday, January 6, 2019 - 86.5: Tasted this right after opening and it was fantastic, great smokiness though a bit high on the tannins. Aerated a glass for comparison and it was completely lifeless. Still, even without further aerating, subsequent glasses were not as lovely as the first. A bit on the thin side with more fruit and less terroir than I expect from a Malbec. Unbeatable color though, an amazing dark ruby on the edge blending to a deep purple core. Great legs, which you'd expect to be sweeter than it turns out to be. Perhaps aged a bit too long? A lot of sediment in the bottle, but the cork was in excellent condition. You really have to take a mouthful to detect the complexity; this ain't no sippin' wine, you almost have to chug it to fully appreciate it. I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed, but as another reviewer noted, it's not on par with a good Argentine Malbec.
