86.5: Tasted this right after opening and it was fantastic, great smokiness though a bit high on the tannins. Aerated a glass for comparison and it was completely lifeless. Still, even without further aerating, subsequent glasses were not as lovely as the first. A bit on the thin side with more fruit and less terroir than I expect from a Malbec. Unbeatable color though, an amazing dark ruby on the edge blending to a deep purple core. Great legs, which you'd expect to be sweeter than it turns out to be. Perhaps aged a bit too long? A lot of sediment in the bottle, but the cork was in excellent condition. You really have to take a mouthful to detect the complexity; this ain't no sippin' wine, you almost have to chug it to fully appreciate it. I wouldn't say that I'm disappointed, but as another reviewer noted, it's not on par with a good Argentine Malbec.

Decant for 2 hours. Cedar, smoke and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Cherry and a hint of smoke with a nice level f acidity developing into silky mouthfeel. Finish is sharp giving way to tannins and trailing off with a chalky flavor.

Extreme medicinal character with black licorice, anise, & herbs. Black fruit with vanilla & cedar on the nose as well. Dark black fruit of currant & blackberry seeds surrounded by vanilla. A slightly herbal character on the mid palate & finish but not a lot. Acidity is good & fairly balanced with tannin but just not terribly complex. Decent.

Solid Malbec. However, it's not even in the same league as a high-end Argentinian.
