Sunday, May 26, 2013 - Italy Tasting: Medium ruby color. Nose of red berries, some animalic notes (leather, bacon) and the "typical" Aglianico aromatics of minerals (think "lava stone") and a hint of smoke. Unfortunately, on the palate it kind of misses the mark. There is mouth-coatingly high tannin that's definitely on the dry side. There is also a medium-high acidity adding freshness, all in a medium-full body. It's relatively long and the aromatics are interesting, but I just can't get over the masses of dry tannins. It also seems to be a little over-extracted.
