2008 Lillian Winery Syrah

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Saturday, November 9, 2013 - 2-hour decant, consumed over 3 hours. singing its siren song of heady black cherries, blackberry cobbler and raspberry coulis with some mineral undertones as I popped and poured into the decanter. when we started in, it retained fresh blackberry purée notes, but with a very intense savory umami note. as the night wore on, the savory meaty aspects continued to evolve and push the dark fruit flavors ever so slightly to the side. the texture was beautiful and velvety, and the finish was all about roasted black fruits, spice box, some vanilla and chocolate flavors, and more spice and pepper. this, unlike the 08 Keplinger Kingpin Rows I revisited recently, is continuing to evolve and improve. I did not find any seams or hard edges, and found the balance to be impeccable. it has a very long life ahead, but if you get antsy it will not disappoint. if scoring, I'm landing on 96-98. I'm so in love with Lillian, just wish I could afford more.

11/10/2013 11:24:00 AM - I passed this year because I want to save money. Actually I got back into Pinot and haven't save a dime. Is it too late to change my mind?

11/10/2013 1:21:00 PM - dsgris- maybe not. they lifted their allocation for the recent release and pretty much let you name your quantity. no harm in asking!
