Saturday, March 11, 2023 - I haven‘t had the 2007 in 8 years and wow has it developped beautifully. Deep purple/ruby color with just a touch of lightening up towards the rim.
Notes of dark plum, cassis/black currant, black cherries, some sweet spices, lots of graphite/earthy minerality, there is also some tobacco leaf and cedar wood. It's full-bodied, dense and powerful, but also with nice polish, the tannin is still medium+ and there is medium+ acidity adding freshness. Very long finish. A very beautiful Sammarco at the beginning of its drinking window. It will ultimately be eclipsed by the more classic vintages (like 2004, 2010, 2013 or 2016) but a beautiful wine full of character.
