Better than our previous two tastings. Still dark ruby in color with some bricking on the edge. Plums, blackberries, and chocolate with hints of leather, tobacco and mint in the nose. Deep, concentrated fruit in the flavor, blackberries, blueberries, black currants, plums, licorice and some earthiness in the flavor. Very well balanced, nice acidity, full bodied, complex, and a very long finish.

I haven‘t had the 2007 in 8 years and wow has it developped beautifully. Deep purple/ruby color with just a touch of lightening up towards the rim. Notes of dark plum, cassis/black currant, black cherries, some sweet spices, lots of graphite/earthy minerality, there is also some tobacco leaf and cedar wood. It's full-bodied, dense and powerful, but also with nice polish, the tannin is still medium+ and there is medium+ acidity adding freshness. Very long finish. A very beautiful Sammarco at the beginning of its drinking window. It will ultimately be eclipsed by the more classic vintages (like 2004, 2010, 2013 or 2016) but a beautiful wine full of character.

Opened from half bottle, not as rich as I was expecting. While very enjoyable, I will drink my remaining 375ml soon, and wait a few years before opening a 750ml. Plums, blackberries, chocolate, leather, and hints of mint and tobacco in the nose. Blackberries, blueberries, plums, licorice and earthiness in the flavor. Well balanced, nice complexity, and a medium to long finish.

Fragrant nose of black olives, rosemary and Italian seasonings. Earthy and complex with prodding flavors but retains its energy and freshness. Very fine tannins and a great structure and mouthfeel. Menthol and eucalyptus on the long finish. Delicious.

Garnet with a hint of orange hue in very low layers. From the start blueberries, herbs, tobacco leafs and minty terpene notes. On the palate quite tannic and this isn't going to change within its drinking window I suppose. As always very masculin and structured not very far from being unbalanced. So the 97 points from Galloni for the WA are a bit to optimistic for me. 5/13/17/10. -2032+ It is a good idea to pair this with fat meat dishes.

Very enjoyable. Combines the structure of Cabernet with the freshness and acidity of Sangiovese. Full-bodied dark fruit with some of the earthiness of the Merlot shining through on the finish. Mushrooms, cedar and some green pepper. Fine tannins.

After 3 slightly oxidative bottles from an OC that must have seen some heat damage (unfortunately this seems more common with Italian wines...), I bought a second case and this is showing great. Beautiful, herbal nose. Well balanced palate. Dark fruit, some wood spices but no overripe or burned fruit, lovely freshness for 2007 with acidity and tannins well integrated. Medium finish. Solid 93. Seems square in its drinking window, quite soft and round, this will last but doubt there is much upside from here. Very well done for 07

Needed a lot of air ahead of drinking. Have 4 bottles and the first one would indicate it will show no more aging potential. Was a little past peak, although the floral notes were beautiful after decanting. The after taste was a little astringent, but certainly performed better with food and i served a coq au vin that it stood up nicely to. Do not go mild on your food selection as this will over power the food.

Second bottle from OC and showing better than first. Still immediately upon opening a slight oxidative note on the nose which however disappeared quickly. Very well balanced and integrated wine which does not show the heat of the vintage like many others. Not the most profound Sammarco in my eyes but great to drink. Would probably not hold for the very long run given the risk of oxidization

Sangiovese with CS is a great match! Acidity from the sangiovese, body and elegance of the CS, medium to full body, leather, cedar, blackberries, soft balanced oak / vanilla, strong but nice acidic backbone, long finish, drink now up to 10 years

SO'd for 4 hours. Dark purple color. Classic nose of cassis/black currant, black cherries, vanilla, sweet spices, earth, graphite, some crushed flowers, almost resembling a top-notch Médoc. At the beginning there was also a touch of horse saddle but disappeared after some aeration. On the palate there is mainly ripe black and blue berries, again a beautiful minerality (graphite, earth) as well as some spices, a touch of tobacco leaf and also a touch of herbs. It's full-bodied, dense, polished with medium-high tannin and medium acidity adding some grip. The tannin is a touch drying but this might integrate with a few more years in bottle. Very long finish. A very beautiful Sammarco, still young but very expressive. I would give it another 2-3 years in bottle before opening another one but it's hard to wait if a wine is that great already... Somehow I think there will be even more complexity in a few years.

Very dense wine packed and concentrated. Lots of wood spices, dried currants, slight tinges of graphite with Bordeaux-like tendencies. This will be exciting to follow for another 3-5 years, but it's still a bit stuck in its youth. 92-94

O aroma decepcionou, muito alcoólico no princípio e insípido, se diluiu com o tempo. O gustativo fez por merecer a fama do Toscano. Taninos muito macios, aveludados. Vinho equilibrado. Leve amargor, amadeirado, toque de pimenta. Notas de azeitona preta, groselha e baunilha. Podemos ter errado na forma de servir. Nosso clima nessa época esquenta muito.

Fantastic earthy nose immediately after pouring and started to show more blue and black fruit, minerals and flowers with time in the glass. Medium body with fine grained tannins and balanced acidity. Very long finish. Tons of elegance and complexity. Reminds me more of a traditional left bank Bordeaux than a super Tuscan. Beautiful stuff and well worth the $80.

the nose ! wow, what a beautiful elegant complex pedigreed nose. Lots of oak, but very well integrated, some dark cherry. The structure and finish..... meh. the structure was a little absent and what was there was tannic in an unpleasant way, light, but unpleasant. I enjoyed smelling this wine more than I enjoyed drinking. I give the nose 96 points, I give the structure and finish about a 90, perhaps that is why other people are ranking this an average of 93. Parker gave it 97, so maybe it was better at one time. It almost tastes like it may have been cooked or not temp stored properly by the time I got it a year ago, so there is a mystery of a few years of questionable storage. Update at 2 hour decant. Much better structure and finish, adding 2 points to the finish score, so average of at least 94 points

Dark red/purple color, very little rim. Nose of amaro and blue plums. On the palate sour cherry, forrest fruit, spices and hints of almond and tar. Tannins are quite hars, suggesting that this vine needs cellar time. Very long. Decanted after first sip and expecting tannins to be softer with air. Much more balanced than 2006 that we had the other day.
Friday Afternoon at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): This is an impressive wine. From start to finish it was the most complete wine of the day for me. A great blend of rich fruit, truffle tones, lots of exotic spices and elegant floral notes. Beautiful acid and medium tannins on the finish give this some energy and the sense that it has many, many years of life ahead of it.

This is a wine with bright future, but easy to say that it is years from its best showing. I would guess in 3 years time is is already much more complex. Seductive nose, fresh with flowers, some eucalyptus. The palate is very tannic, heavy structure, thick; dark yet young and perhaps one-dimensional flavor profile but also refreshing elements and not just acids but the fruit. I like very much the balance. Patience will be rewarded.

Dark red colour, restraint sweet nose of plumes, full body. Nevertheless the wine can be drunk now powerful tannins show that it needs to age. Will certainly add 2-3 points in the next years.
