Wednesday, February 6, 2013 - Cloudy Bay was a revelation back in 1997 when first tasted in a high end restaurant going quickly and comically bust in the company of a fire-starting, policewoman-belting redhead with a brilliant, depressed mind.
Hmn! Times have changed and so has Cloudy Bay. Second of a batch of three, too long in the fridge but like the first leaving little impression at all. Better on day 2 with grapefruit drifting in - still a stretch to claim this had any discernible character.
Perhaps it gained in the 90s from its newness to market and our over-familiarity with Oz chardonnays. Now overtaken by dozens of its countrymen and priced on fond long gone memory.
