Sunday, January 22, 2012 - I had recently acquired this wine, and subsequently had the opportunity to go to an Italian winemaker tasting that included the young Arianna Occhipinti, whom I was under the impression had been the winemaker of this wine. I was mistaken. And while I loved her fine Sicilan wines, I have no love for this one from Latium. The nose is downright weird, but being a new grape or me that was sort of okay. If it tasted good. Which it did not.

This really is one of the strangest aromas I've experienced in wine, and I do not really have any real world correlates. Nor did my wife. I suppose it makes me think if you plopped strawberry yogurt on a new vinyl floor and covered it with lacquer and artificial flowers. I assumed this would evolve over time. Well, in 28 hours it has not changed a bit. The palate does not redeem this wine in the least for me (much less for TW). Medium+ body, feels like it should be frizzante red. It tastes more like it should be made from those decorative plastic grapes than something off a vine.

Of course, YMMV, and Galloni liked it, but I'd suggest if you see an Occhipinti, stick with Arianna's excellent Sicilian wines.
