Saturday, February 28, 2015 - Excellent modern style California Bordeaux blend, but a little heavy handed for my personal tastes. Lacks the finesse of a comparably priced Bordeaux. Fragrant Cab nose leads to a full bodied flavor packed palate, and a good finish. Still a little clumsy for this Bordeaux guy. Is it my imagination, or did California produce wines in the 70's and early 80's that were packed with flavor, but showed much less weight?

A book has been written on the subject, "The New California Wine: A Guide to the Producers and Wines Behind a Revolution in Taste", by Jon Bonne. However the title is deceiving. Low alcohol isn't a "new" style, it is a return to the 70's and of course some California winemakers never stopped producing balanced wines, like Paul Draper's Ridge Monte Bello.
