Saturday, March 5, 2016 - Poured blind, as part of a 3 wine 2011 Papera zinfandel flight. Of the three wines (the other two being Carlisle and Williams Selyem), this finished last place for me by a good distance. Why? For one, it tasted and looked aged. By first guess was some kind of older zin, like something 10 years of age, say 2006 vintage. It had a roasted, mulled quality, tasting tired. There was also a spearmint gum note to me in the finish, like a stick of Doublemint was flavored into it. Surprising, as given the vintage and the skill of Bedrock, I would not have expected this but again, this was served blind and my notes were honest to what was behind the foil.

When we did our 2011 restrospective tasting a few months ago this wine was fresh and vibrant and just behind that Saitone Ranch as one of our favorite wines from the vintage. I am not sure how much we have in the library but if there is enough I am happy to provide a replacement bottle. Sorry you had a bad experience with it!

I don't have much experience with this bottling but it was different than the one you describe. The bottle was brought by Chris Seiber, who is on Wine Berserkers. Send him a PM if you like and cover the base with him, as I know he would appreciate it. Thank you again, stay at it!

3/6/2016 9:22:00 AM - Frank, I have the '11, '12 and '13. Next time you come up we can do a vertical and compare. Like Morgan, the first thing that came to mind reading your note was an off bottle. Definitely not in line with previous bottles of the '11.
