Sunday, February 12, 2012 - Tasted in a line-up of vintages 09, 08, 05, 02, 00. Just at the point of turning, evolving. You can start to see the excellence of the vintage, with balance, power, great structure, fruit and heady notes. Can drink now, but given the potential that the 02 and 00 showed, I would wait till the 10 yr mark min to open this. Great note shown on the wine page in the "professional tasting history" section by Bill Nason, "Deep colour. Very tight aromas with dark, creamily oaked fruit notes at the core, slowly releasing raspberry notes. A little prickly carbon dioxide then tongue saturating flavours of coffee and roast nuts. Lots of structure, but balance too. As it loses the CO2 it becomes close to a complete wine." Pretty much my same impression, minus the CO2. The wine had been open for a while, and also in the glass for a while, so didn't notice this.
