90 Points

Friday, August 30, 2013 - shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. paired with chicken, pepper, mozz and basil from la bella. i had a vague recollection of having had this wine before. database shows that it was the 2005 vintage which we drank in 2007. review of tasting notes from myself an others suggests that this wine is constructed to show best about three years from the vintage, hold well for a year and then decline rapidly after that. this bottle, may follow the same pattern but seems to be more robust. i believe that 2011 was a more successful vintage overall. this wine starts out shy showing mostly oak which is probably annoying to most people. after 30 minutes it builds to a huge crescendo with lingering oak balanced by white fruit as well as citrus, lots of vanilla and some minerality. i am guessing that with another year of bottle age, this wine will really come together. will go back for more. interesting that winery has not raised prices since 2007.
