2003 Château Duhart-Milon

Saturday, January 18, 2014 - Small Coravin session @ home. Pretty dark garnet/purple color. Jumps out of the glass with dark fruit (blueberries, black currant), sweet toasted oak and some graphite and tobacco. On the palate there are again plenty of dark fruits (blueberries, some dark cherries and cassis/black currant) as well as some oaky spicyness, a touch of dark chocolate and some lead pencil/graphite as well as a touch of herbs. Full-bodied and dense without being heavy, with medium acidity and medium tannin that is perfectly ripe. Medium finish. I was never the biggest fan of Duhart-Milon but they hit it out of the park with their 2003. It's full-bodied and opulent, but very balanced and doesn't have any sur-maturité or oxidative notes like many other in that vintage.
