Monday, December 24, 2007 - Christmas Eve at the "Old World" Brother In Law's. And that means another chance to check the progress of my wines by drinking from the Great Man's cellar - Merry Christmas indeed. This time around I was a little less impressed with the Duhart. It had a palatable sense of class and elegance with all of the requisite elements in play - deep sweet black currant, cigar box, tobacco, graphite, substantial but softening tannins - but - I was distracted by the wood on this tasting. Maybe it's going through a stage or maybe it's just me but I experienced a streak of unpleasant and unintegrated oak from the mid palate through the finish. Excellent and I look forward to checking in again next holiday season.
