Tuesday, May 26, 2015 - David B's note frightened me off through the winter but now seeing summer almost here, what the hell, time to try one of these. I opened this yesterday, drank a glass and experienced it opening up. By the end of the glass y/day, some blue tones had filled in and added some palate, which was a bit austere on first opening. Not a big surprise but was glad to see the ox take a whack at it. As for today, it surely has the Wind Gap aromatics, which means plenty of whole cluster goodness--cracked herb stems, cooked meat and even some light florals. Today, the palate retains the juicy blueberry note I mentioned, reminding me of the 2006 vintage of this wine. This feature is really striking, as it's about as close to eating pure blueberry as I can recall in a syrah...like skin, seed, the whole package of blueberry fruit. For sure, there is still grip in this wine, showing a stony quality with medium weight. Good dollop of black olive shows up too with more air. Maybe one more day will tell more of the story but if that doesn't change, I would concur with David to give this time. It's evolving, if you believe his note and mine, but it will evolve on a longer curve. PS--there's zero oak and alcohol evident here. This is probably about as pure a juicy, blue fruited syrah as one will find.

5/27/2015 11:05:00 AM - We can only hope this grows up to be like the '06 which was probably my favorite vintage of this wine (by a nose). None of those left for me now, but the '07 and '08s are in a great spot.

5/28/2015 7:40:00 PM - Stubbie, I have just one 2006 left and I clearly see in my mind when I drank the last one, which was 5 years ago during XMAS. I guess I need to figure out when the last bottle loses its cork! PS--we haven't had a new TN on this wine in nearly 2 years. Seems we have a TN stalemate.
