Saturday, September 22, 2012 - Opened to inspect, possibly aerate/decant 6 hours before service. There is some sediment, but it's very fine and of little consequence. Lovely garnet toward ruby core, no sign of age; cork looks like it's about 10 minutes old. Powerful, almost ceaseless nose of black raspberry, smoke, baking spice, some blood. With 15 minutes in the glass, additional red and black fruits emerge on the nose and full-bodied palate including melted red licorice, garrigue, vanilla and herbs. Near weightless, seamless, the acids are lively. Bright, and fresh, this is also painfully tight right now (which I knew would prolly be the case). I'm going to let it aerate until service. Perhaps I'll update this note tomorrow. Easily in the good to very good, but nothing that suggests outstanding or epic. Final take-away: I paid too much, this drinks more like a nice $45 (or less) bottle. 14,5% abv.
