Sunday, December 25, 2016 - Enjoyed over several hours Christmas day. Started with a 1-hour decant: the wine was open with olive tapenade and a savory meatiness on the nose. Over the next couple hours the wine softened and opened up further. Liquorice and herbs appeared on the nose, which became richer. On the palate an initial sweetness made way for an herbaceous, coffee and dark chocolate-tinged finish. Tannins started off fairly noticeable although soft, suggesting that this wine could age a bit longer before full maturity.

All in all, a rich, savory, and enjoyable CDP. This is definitely approachable now with decanting, but I suspect that its best days are yet to come! (I should say that my mom raved about it!)
