Saturday, October 29, 2022 - Bordeaux and Beyond (The csimm_M Estate): A generous bring from Bryan and Kamryn to CS’s Grand BDX tasting. On the nose and palate, oodles of funk and wet earth, dried florals, black cherries, currants, cassis and plums, chocolate, tobacco, and green leafiness. Reddish brown, medium-full bodied, thick legs. Medium+ tannins which I found better integrated than several recent writers, medium acidity, no heat. Excellent complexity, VG+ intensity and persistence. Very classic BDX, at least in the mind of this irregular BDX drinker, with a lovely and sophisticated funkiness and savoriness but fruit which was findable without an electron microscope. The spine is strong here, promising a long, and possibly happier life, but for my palate, and without knowing the givers’ decanting hygiene here, this is good to go, with plenty of structure to excel with food, especially our cassoulet and rack of lamb, but also quite great as a standalone. Didn’t have quite the purity of fruit to equal the Angelus on this night for me, but a dead heat with the ‘96 Las Cases for second in the BDX category. 95-96+

And, with only my former law partner, dcrutcher, being older (and only a year or two at that) and with a plurality, if not majority, in their 30s, you’d bring some nice age, and stylistic balance to the proceedings. Happy to keep you posted on future events.

10/30/2022 3:42:00 PM - We lived in CA all our lives but moved to CO 4 years ago when I retired. I think CSIMM is a Classic.I’m a fan of bike guy too. Sometime. We travel and are gone a lot so sometime. My son & wife are both SF Tech sales people and lived in SF for several years. They moved to SD last year.

10/30/2022 3:56:00 PM - Csimm is as good a guy as you’ll meet, and although we don’t always agree—who does?—his knowledge on wine beats mine like a rug (except for Italy, where I’ll accept a backseat only to Tim Heaton and Eric Guido on the site). Aaron_Maxwell is probably my best CT friend and ridiculously generous. Cyclist is awesome, although unfortunately moved to outside Philly. It was good reconnecting with WBW and meeting Bryan. I’m not a big social media user, but CT has really made me appreciate that. Pretty much all of our get togethers are in the SF area (I live in Noe Valley). I *love* San Diego as someone who’s practically amphibious and thinks 72 degrees is just about perfect. CA has its annoyances, but as someone who needs to live near a large body of water, I don’t have any thoughts on better places.
