Saturday, November 24, 2018 - Tremendous from start to finish - one of the best all-around bottles I’ve had in a while! Exceptionally well balanced and pleasantly mature (though still only minimally tertiary), the wine was firing on all cylinders from rich yet vibrant fruit to savoury mulled spices and hickory. The quality of fruit is evident; Beaux Frères achieves this through biodynamic farming and special attention paid to their well positioned vineyard sites. Aside from the use of a portion of new oak barrels, winemaking is performed with minimal intervention techniques to allow the wine’s true character to emerge - said new oak does lend flavours and structure to the wine, but at this age is perfectly integrated rather than imposing. I’ll admit, I was surprised to find this drinking as fresh as it did, and as noted above, with a ways to go in terms of tertiary qualities. That said, this wine is in a perfect spot - find some, drink up, and enjoy to the last drop.
