Saturday, April 7, 2018 - On the nose: Dark berries and blackcurrant in particular. Oak, of course. Wet forest. I'll throw in some leather and musk as well. Beautiful smell.

On the palate: The first sip doesn't quite deliver what what was promised by the nose. Dark berries, wood. I think the 2009 offers more complexity, so given the choice between the two the 2009 would clearly be my choice.

3 year ago I thought that the 2005 needs more time. Now, I think the time is about right, although I also think it will drink well for quite a few years still.

Coufran is always an interesting west side Bordeaux due to the unusually high fraction of Merlot. One of my favorites in this price range. The "Pomerol of Haut-Médoc" (although I would prefer an actual Pomerol).
