94 Points

Saturday, January 27, 2018 - Occasional dinner group; Bordeaux 2000 (@ Merlet): The bouquet shows some autumn forest impressions, a firm dose of oak and dark berries. On the palate red and dark berries, some green bell pepper. The wine is quite classical and still a bit locked. Needs another 5+ years to show all of its finesse and complexity. 92 - 94++

7/18/2018 11:18:00 PM - I drank the 2000 LB side by side with a Gruaud Larose 2000 about three years ago and the Léoville Barton seemed younger, fruitier, riper and broader, yet more reserved than the Gruaud Larose and promised better aging potential. At that time I thought the LB was just entering into its prime drinking window and should provide maximum pleasure from 2018+, and for at least another 15 years. Given that your bottle still seemed reserved, I think I will hold off even a little longer. Thanks!
