Sunday, September 29, 2019 - 1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The Last Session (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Expressive nose displaying decadent yellow fruit, apricot, apple pie, lemon oil, crème brulee, a hint of butter scotch, spicy spices and mineral. Unbelievable concentration, layers upon layers of decadent yellow fruit, rich, opulent and oily yet also perfectly harmonious and detailed, bright acidity and mineral, and an incredibly long opulent yellow fruit driven finish with spicy spices at the end. This is more DRC Montrachet like than the 96 DRC Montrachet, i.e. rich, ripe and exotic. Exceptional showing.

10/1/2019 10:52:00 AM - Great review DCWino! I bought 18 bottles of the '96 Marquis de Laguiche upon release through Farr Vintners, but sold off a case at auction. Unfortunately, I have had mixed results with the remaining 6 bottles. One bottle was excellent (though not in the class of the bottle you drank), but three others were slightly premoxed, though still drinkable. Two bottles remain in my cellar and your stellar rating has me inclined to pull them to see if lighting strikes twice.

    Thanks for posting!
