Saturday, October 15, 2005 - I had been hanging onto this bottle for some time and it represents the first Novy I ever bought. Having found this wine in Wine Enthusiast @ 94 points three or so years ago, I contacted the winery, got on the mailing list and bought two and the wine has been cellared ever since. (And being the Novy pimp I am, my cellar now has over 50 bottles of Novy, from all different vintages and vineyards!) Opened this morning and set on the counter. Came back to a small pour off and I found a wine this is drinking pretty elegant. Of all the PNs I have had, this vintage has to be the lightest of all and the color shows it. Much lighter in red tone and smelling of a little pepper and game, and perhaps a touch of brett but it seems to add to the wine, as well. On the palate, I think red, red, red fruit, not the typical darker blacks I seem to usually find from this vineyard. Along with the cherry is some larger spicy fruit, anise and some toast. The oak is pretty well integrated and there is some acids left to keep it going. Will post a final note tomorrow, as this wine will stay open and breathing for tomorrow's Kings/Columbus game. (P.S. Having did the ’01 PN two weekends ago, what a different a vintage makes. The ’01 is huge, tight and needs to sleep).
