92 Points

Tuesday, April 30, 2019 - A private dinner (Maison d’Olivier Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet, France): A rare wine chez Olivier Leflaive - they only produce two barrels annually. No new oak (100% “fûts d’un vin”), élévage of 12 months. Truffières is very high up on the hill, and its inherent minerality paired with the elegance of the 2013 vintage, delivers a fragrant and playful, almost dancing character. It is all lemon curd and steel and flowers, so with excellent typicity but without great complexity (it does develop some orange zest and grapefruit notes), and the modest oak treatment recognises this. The acidity is wonderfully lively, the bitters are subtle and the finish is slightly tight, but length is very good. Delightful, well presented, clean and pure as always at this address. Drink now - 2022.
