2005 Noon Eclipse

95 Points

Sunday, January 7, 2007 - A truly massive, eye-opening Eclipse with loads of blueberry, blackberry, cherry compote, lemon zest, pepper, and cinammon. The nose is somewhat undifferentiated at this point, showing sweetness and rich fruit, and the color is a gorgeous purple (not black). The wine is clearly huge, but I don't find it hot in the slightest. Noon fans will love the 05, and I'm pleased to have broken into my stash so early to have an idea of the quality of the vintage (my favorite since 2001). This is what I like in Aussie shiraz (and, in this case, a shiraz blend) - intense, powerful, teeth-staining, laser-like fruit without any of the cough syrupy, gloppy, jet black and roasted molten lava goo sensations.
