Tuesday, February 12, 2008 - Decanted 1 hour. Nose of sour cherries, forest floor, dried tobacco. Flavors of sour cherry, pepper, pine. Nice acidity; some saline, savory notes as well. Approachable with decanting, but this is quite structured, with lots of somewhat rustic, mouthfilling tannins. A quite tasty, rather fresh tasting wine with reasonable complexity that lacks a little for ripeness and concentration, no doubt due to the vintage. After 24 hours, the forest floor notes have taken a decidedly greener turn, but this holds up well over several days, and will please fans of a leaner style of Savigny.
