91 Points

Tuesday, November 12, 2019 - Pours a somewhat light transparent ruby with just a hint of blue at the rim. Initially the aromatics are quite feral and gamey, but it eventually rounds out to a balanced and seemingly traditional Northern Rhone nose. Moderate intensity notes of animal fur, tar, plum, blueberry, cracked black pepper, and star anise waft gently from the glass. The palate features medium plus acid and medium minus tannin and that really nice almost creamy mouthfeel Syrah can sometimes put on. The finish isn't terribly long at the moment but replays a touch of the gamy and spiced side of the wine. Still a touch tightly wound but not a crime to open. I suspect it's best days lie 5 - 10 years ahead. Liked it enough to set a second bottle aside to age. I'd expect 1 or 2 points of upside.
