On first day of opening very closed. Drank it again on day 3 and it was more balanced with some tannins, fruit and acidity. Enjoyed the wine given it’s affordable price but kept thinking about cote rotie…

Consumed directly after the 2015 Cornas “Le Village”. This was just a notch below that wine in my opinion. Right now, the structure is taking center stage and not allowing the fruit to deliver in the same way its cousin is giving. I also think the Cornas showed more complexity. Not that this isn’t endowed with fruit or complexity. A very lovely wine though.

Pours a somewhat light transparent ruby with just a hint of blue at the rim. Initially the aromatics are quite feral and gamey, but it eventually rounds out to a balanced and seemingly traditional Northern Rhone nose. Moderate intensity notes of animal fur, tar, plum, blueberry, cracked black pepper, and star anise waft gently from the glass. The palate features medium plus acid and medium minus tannin and that really nice almost creamy mouthfeel Syrah can sometimes put on. The finish isn't terribly long at the moment but replays a touch of the gamy and spiced side of the wine. Still a touch tightly wound but not a crime to open. I suspect it's best days lie 5 - 10 years ahead. Liked it enough to set a second bottle aside to age. I'd expect 1 or 2 points of upside.

A pleasant wine but without the complexity i expected. more like an AUS pinot noir inits fruitiness and sweetness.
