90 Points

Tuesday, September 15, 2020 - Sauer - Ziereisen - Jura - Champagne; 9/9/2020-9/16/2020 (Escherndorf - Efringen-Kirchen - Arbois - Cramant/Bouzy/Verzenay): From 75cl at Paul Bara tasting room, bottle opened previous day. Younger vines than the Extra Brut: 80/20% PN/Chard; 50/50% base wine from 2013/reserve; dosage 7g, 4 years sur lie, disgorged Jul 2019. Astonishingly, this doesn’t taste sweeter than the Extra Brut, perhaps as a result of the different base wine (2013 instead of 2012), the younger-vine fruit, or the year since disgorgement. Full-bodied, delicious, perhaps a bit sullen, lacking “nerve” and “poise”? Fine value for 25€ cellar door. (89-)90P
