Friday, January 26, 2024 - Old World vs New World: Merlot & Cab Sauv on Blueback Drive (Vancouver Island): One of four Cabernet Sauvignon or CS-dominant blends in a blind tasting of old world vs new world. Inviting nose of maturing fruits. Great balance of alcohol, tannin and acid. Lush ripe fruit suspended beautifully in the centre from the bouquet to the palate to the finish. Very good depth and concentration. Most preferred Cab of its flight (6/12 tasters). Many guessed New World Napa due to its more modern style. Note: wine was double-decanted approximately 1hr prior to tasting.

Loved how you slipped in BC gems, like Addendum & CdS. No surprise Stormy Weather placed...such a gorgeous monster.

Another epic success! Many thanks for the intel.

1/29/2024 9:34:00 AM - KJ, it was a very nice lineup and the wines were contributed by several of the tasters with the theme previously telegraphed to all and to bring a wine within the 50-100 range. Sure, the Guado and Stormy punch well above that price point but I was feeling generous. As for the Le Serre Nuove, it probably would have benefited from a solid decant due to the fact it was tasting much more luscious and complete later in the evening. its a quality wine.
