Friday, August 18, 2017 - A really good bottle of Vega Sicilia.
At perfect maturity with still time in hand.
Depth of fruit, clarity, complexity, none of the volatile elements old Vega Sicilias often show. It would have been interesting to have it along top Bordeaux's from the same vintage - I guess Vega Sicilia would have been fuller and sweeter than most otherwise it would be very similar.

On the nose it had the patina of age with depth of blackcurrant fruit, notes of orange peel, herbs like mint and leather. It was savoury and sweet on the palate with almost full body, mellow tannins and good balancing acidity. A great wine.
