Wednesday, May 20, 2009 - Pop & Pour. A good deep purple, 100% Zin. A crazy Welch's grape juice nose jumped out of the glass on first pour. Bit more restrained now, little mushroom in there, this is one strange brew. Not a thick glycerin wine, more smooth, almost light palate. Spice, different from a Shiraz, but like a asian 5 spice. Clove, cinnamon, ginger heat spice. Nice. Well balanced. Short finish mainly, but opening up with a lingering taste, all the flavors coming together. This should gain more complexity with some bottle time, based on the spice aspect and interesting nose, as well as the good tannin/fruit/oak/acid balance. 2-5 years. Yes, the nose is a Welch's grape juice shake fortified with wild mushrooms, with some of that passing in to the palate.
