Sunday, February 19, 2017 - A wonderfully elegant wine that might just be coming to maturity. Had this over two days. First day. Cork was really stuck in there and had to be coaxed out. in fact, it destroyed my two prong extractor, turning it into a corkscrew. Deeply stained purple and almost black but no infiltration whatsoever. Nice aroma upon opening of richness and density. Poured through Vinturi and also dark in glass. Wonderful fruit and structure but not over extracted by any means. This wine looked like it was a good wine in the glass. I don't know how to explain that-how it looked like a high quality wine in the glass-but that was my impression. It just had that clean appearance and purity of color that it almost was radiant. Second day the fruit emerged even more and was even better with a taste of sweetness from perhaps the glycol. Last glass threw some small sediment. Other taster also remarked on how good a wine this was. WS states this should be drunk up to 2018 while WA indicates this is a 40 year wine. I agree with WA, as this showed no signs of fading or adverse falling off and the day old evolution of peak flavors. In fact, I wish I would have saved some for day 3 just to see if it was still maturing, but never made it. I think this might develop more but would venture no more than 10 years or so. Highly recommended.
