Tuesday, September 16, 2014 - Deep and very intense golden yellow color. Cool and somewhat herbal yet very rich and complex nose with aromas of pronounced toasty character, exotic spices, cinnamon bread, some honey, a little bit of dried pineapple, a botrytized hint of fried mushrooms and a touch of syrup. The wine is very full-bodied, quite sticky and extremely rich on the palate with very complex and intense flavors of honey, toffee, vanilla, toasted bread, some white syrup, a little bit of fried citrus fruits, a hint of candied orange peel and a touch of pineapple. The wine is only medium-to-moderate in acidity, which accentuates the sweetness and richness of the wine. The finish is extremely complex and almost endless with layered and ridiculously persistent flavors of toffee, toasty oak spice, honey, some Weetabix, a little bit of exotic spice, a hint of smoke and a touch of dried apricots.

An incredibly complex, rich and weighty Sauternes that once again shows why Suduiraut just might be my favorite Sauternes Château. This vintage seems to have put richness, cocnentration and weight over freshness and elegance, but the wine still retains enough acidity to pull it all off remarkably well. Overall the wine is still pretty young, only light bready and toasty qualities hinting at bottle age - otherwise the wine is still very youthful in style. Although not painfully young, i.e. the wine is drinking very nicely right now, it is still more about future potential than immediate enjoyment. I'd let the wine age at least twice as long before returning to it. Very lovely.
