Sunday, January 21, 2024 - My first of the ‘19’s and very approachable. Very intense flavors of tropical fruits and yes the cat pee is there too. Nicely acidic, the SB dominates for now.
1/21/2024 5:14:00 PM - Sounds about right - thanks for the details. I try to keep my hands off this, as I adore that nutty, dried fruit in its later years.
2/3/2024 7:05:00 AM - KJ it’s funny most years I have wine goals, but I haven’t been as explicit this year. I guess I would say quality over quantity in ‘24. For drinking and buying. How about yours?
2/3/2024 5:57:00 PM - Sounds like a solid plan DQ - Seneca the younger would also concur.
Finding my area a little overpriced @ the moment, how about you? I will do more auction house raids this year. Many cellars are being given up it seems...
My wine goal is to explore Sauvignon Blanc from NZ to Croatia - and all stops in between...my 'deep dive' this year. Even throwing Fume-blanc in the mix...lol.
Got myself addicted to aged Chardonnay recently...my god, is it good, no?
2/4/2024 5:08:00 AM - KJ—I’m with you on the aged Chardonnay. If I was going to do an exploration tour it would be that. Or maybe just forget the exploration and stay in France!! Sauv Blanc is not my favorite although I have had a few surprises. But the travels sound like a good plan. I don’t think we drank or encountered much SB in Croatia, but given my bias I wouldn’t have been looking for it. Now that you have inspired me on goals, I am thinking something around champagne for 2025. Maybe a masterclass…. Napa Valley Wine Academy has one this year that looks amazing (Champagne certification type class) but the dates don’t work. Take notes on your travels, you’ll need them when I interview you on the pod 😆
2/4/2024 5:10:00 AM - And by the way, for your SB exploration, two that I have loved despite my general avoidance of it: 2010 Malartic Lagraviere Blanc 2016 Patel (I think it is Napa Valley)
Both show how interesting it can be with a touch of age
