93 Points

Saturday, August 27, 2022 - Thinking about buying more to lay down in light of Dunnuck’s 96 rating but wanted to get an idea where it’s at first. In addition, I love what Mike Smith did with the 2019 Myriad Peterson cab and curious how the 2019 Switchback Ridge Peterson cab compares since he also made this wine. Decanted for five hours on day one and that wasn’t enough as expected - still fairly closed/tight and a little tannic/acidic. However, improvement on day two and three as it opened-up further. Dark ruby fruit - blackberry, currants, and some dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration - it picked-up weight over three days. Nice vibrant flavors of dark berries, baking spices/licorice, cassis, and a little graphite component. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. A nice wine but it needs a fair amount of time to develop further - give it a couple years. 93 on day three. 100% cab.

9/26/2022 11:40:00 PM - Interesting. I didn’t notice that until now. I know Mike did the 2019 vintage for them because I’ve exchanged emails with Mike and Leah about it. However, nothing was mentioned about future vintages. Thanks for the info. Although the 2019 Switchback Ridge cab seems like a solid vintage with some more time, I thought the 2019 Myriad Peterson cab was clearly higher quality - bigger/fuller fruit, more flavorful/expressive, purer, etc.. It was like the Myriad was a Reserve compared to the Switchback Ridge cab. Mike only said that they were “built in the same vein” but didn’t elaborate beyond that but I thought the Myriad was clearly better by a couple points. Thanks again.

9/29/2022 9:55:00 AM - according to a recent email, it looks as if 2021 will be TRBs first vintage with them. I guess Mike just made the 2019

9/29/2022 11:58:00 AM - Thanks for the info. Once again, I love what Mike did with the 2019 Myriad Peterson cab and also the 2018 vintage. I was hoping that the 2019 Switchback Ridge cab would be very similar but it wasn’t - although it is obviously very young and improvement is expected with more time. It will be interesting to see what TRB does with that vineyard. Thanks again. Take care.
