  Once again, thinking about buying more to lay down in light of Dunnuck’s 96 rating but wanted to see where it’s at first. Most 2019 Napa cabs that I’ve had lately need more time so I gave it a slow ox for a day and decanted for another day. No idea how it gradually progressed but quite enjoyable after the decant. Dark ruby fruit - blackberry, currants, dark cherry, and a little plum. Smooth mid-palate with a nice purity and solid depth/concentration - medium plus body. Nice flavors of baking spices/licorice, cassis, cocoa, and a little graphite component. Fairly long finish. A short stint for Mike Smith at Switchback Ridge which is a shame. In my opinion, the flavors that he brings out of the Kenefick Ranch Vineyard and Peterson Family Vineyard are quite impressive. Although I look forward to seeing what Thomas Rivers Brown can do with this vineyard. 100% cab.

In addition, I love what Mike Smith did with the 2019 Myriad Peterson cab and curious how the 2019 Switchback Ridge Peterson cab compares since he also made this wine. Decanted for five hours on day one and that wasn’t enough as expected - still fairly closed/tight and a little tannic/acidic. However, improvement on day two and three as it opened-up further. Dark ruby fruit - blackberry, currants, and some dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration - it picked-up weight over three days. Nice vibrant flavors of dark berries, baking spices/licorice, cassis, and a little graphite component. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. A nice wine but it needs a fair amount of time to develop further - give it a couple years. 93 on day three. 100% cab.
