Monday, March 13, 2017 - Subsequent notes on this wine from close to three years ago. Medium-deep, reddish garnet in color with ever-so-slight clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & quite aromatic nose of ripe fruit aromas of red cherries, strawberries & kirsch notes with overtones of spice notes of cloves & floral notes, earthy/dusty, mushrooms, herbs, minerals & a hint of vanilla. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth texture, ripe fruit flavors of sweet dark cherries, mulberries & plums with spices, herbs, truffles, minerals & a touch of vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with extended airing but at 12 years of age, it may be at or close to its peak of development. I doubt it will develop any further from this point but should hold here for several more years if cellared properly. One of the loveliest Walter Hansel Pinots I have tried.
