Tasted non blind.

Garnet to rusty color, cloudy throughout. Nose of menthol, rusty iron and black berries. Surprisingly good fruit of fresh black berries, cassis and a hint of mint on the finish. Light acidity, full resolved tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink now with no air. Be sure and stand several days before serving and slowly decant off the sediment and serve immediately.

GNO.

11/7/2019 8:08:00 AM - Nice note, Joe. This is my birthyear, so piqued my interest. Seems about like I expected, aged, but not dead. I've not really enjoyed previous wines I've had that are this old, but as a novelty I would try, and may seek this one, looks reasonably priced if it really exists somewhere. I'm curious about provenance on your bottle here and how long you've had it. Seems it was in pretty good condition, all things considered. Thanks for sharing your experience!

11/7/2019 8:20:00 AM - I purchased my bottle from a source in Italy in December 2009. So it has been in my cellar for 10 years. I would say the provenance is good but I'd be purely guessing based on fill level, label, shape of cork at removal, etc... I have no idea of the provenance prior to my purchase. I believe this was in a private cellar in Italy. My source regularly buys old cellars.

I would say if you can find a bottle with good provenance then definitely buy at least one to try for yourself. It'll be a nice treat and educational experience. A good bottle should still have life in it. This one did. More than the previous bottle I opened with this same group.

11/7/2019 9:30:00 AM - Thanks for the follow up. A brief wine-searcher search says Italy is the place to find these older bottles. If/when I ever get there, this type of stuff will be on my list of things to seeks out. The other commonality is I have 2006 version of this wine I think I traded from Tim circa 2010. So I know it will last forever, and I may wait a while to open it. Thanks again!
