Sunday, January 3, 2010 - 1 hour decant. Pretty aromas of sour cherry fruit and a little dry brush. Mouth-watering acidity frames decent richness but a little one-dimensional considering how many varieties have been thrown in here. Sangiovese dominates, but nothing wrong with that when it's as ripe as this. Excellent food wine, drinking top at the moment. Personal preference is not to drink this too warm, to preserve some of the focus and elegance. Drink now and over the next year or two.

EDIT : 24 hours in decanter. Acidity is still strong but the merlot is now really making its presence felt in a rounder and softer transition into the mid palate. Holding up ok, but I think I preferred the fresher and more focussed profile from yesterday.
