Sunday, November 17, 2019 - Champagne Event (Wine Exchange in Santa Ana): No back label info. Zesty, good acidity but came off just kind of burly to me, a bit rough. In my view, for what this costs, there are numerous other examples of really fine Rose out there.

11/17/2019 10:33:00 PM - I agree. No back label is a turnoff. It’s also become overpriced. It’s a good wine, but not sure worth the $ unless you score a sale.

What do you like as an alternative to the BS Rose?

11/24/2019 6:01:00 PM - I think I will try and track down a Vilmart Rose. I’m in the Midwest and it seems we don’t have the selection you have. I donrecall others saying positive things about Vilmart as well.

Are you a fan of Louis Roederer’s vintage rose?

11/25/2019 10:22:00 AM - I need to acquire some of the other Roederer stuff. Their widening and through approach to clean farming has me very interested. I've had a # of bottles of Cristal this year and that farming and care is evident. With Vilmart, you get a similar approach, although with Cristal's plots, you get full bio and Vilmart is not at that stage. But, they do steward their land very well, and the wines are some of may favorites in the higher dosage camp. I assume you are on the mailing lists for Lopa Wine and Envoyer? These would be consistent sources of the Vilmart Rose at strong pricing.

    11/25/2019 1:20:00 PM - Hey Frank,

That’s exactly why I have taken an interest in Roederer. I love their approach to focusing more on biodynamics. For a house of their size, I have to applaud them and hope the others follow suit. I think from a value perspective, it’s hard to beat their vintage wines.

I have not heard of Lopa wines. I will look them up. I just learned of Envoyer through a CT member and an impressed. We don’t have that level of diversity in MN. Too much characterless big house wines.

I got into the hobby because I was excited for my new niece. I bought some Champagne to celebrate. Once I learned the history, how hard they work, and their passion, I was HOOKED.

At first I kinda had to go by the reviews and scores. I tried to get past that ASAP by buying and trying about 12 different houses/producers to understand things. I know now I prefer the growers.

You don’t find the tastings here in MN like you do on the coasts. Apparently Xmas/NYE is the only time it’s pouring. Haven’t found a lot of people near me into the category like I am either. Total shame.
