Sunday, May 1, 2011 - My last bottle, opened and gave it a short decant in the bottle but nothing more. This is showing as a big, fleshy and resolved syrah. Lots of dark fruit, some olive and milk chocolate and some heat on the aromatic. I'd say this wine is pretty well ready to go........there is some additional nuance added to this wine as it sat overnight. What was not present last night that I find now a day later is a merde-like note, akin to some of the earlier Rosella's bottlings that Adam Lee made from that vineyard. It's that same distinctive smell. And in looking at my note from 2009, I made a similar reference to a SLH aromatic, but not this merde note. And, whatever heat signature was on the wine last night is now gone or it's replaced into the background behind the cool merde note. Maintains the fruit forward, chocolate centric note from last night, although I'll add that there is some astringence appearing on the wine, a little more structure to liven up the big fruit. I'd still say to drink now but I think you can wait another year, too.
