93 Points

Saturday, April 6, 2024 - Curious since it’s Thomas Rivers Brown’s first vintage of this wine. Dark ruby fruit - currants, blackberry, dark cherry, and some plum. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration. Nice rich flavors of cassis, some spice/licorice, cocoa, and a little graphite component. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep - it could use some more time to open-up with the finish which isn’t a surprise in light of its youth. Decanted for four hours and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time. Drank next to a 2021 Quivet Napa cab on its third day and I thought the Quivet was a couple points better. Nonetheless, a solid vintage of this wine - 93 for me at this youthful stage. 98% cab sauvignon and 2% petite syrah.

4/7/2024 5:30:00 AM - Thanks for posting. I haven’t tried one since TRB took over. In the past, these have required a bit of time to fully blossom. I believe this wine is a single clone, seven, I think. I might have to hunt some down, although I promised myself to cut back on buying this type of cab, north of $100 just to satisfy my curiosity.

4/7/2024 5:44:00 AM - I found it enjoyable at this youthful stage but I agree with you that it should benefit from some more time - same with most 2021 Napa cabs around this price point and above in my opinion. I found it interesting that they blended it with some petite syrah - I didn’t check the blend before tasting it but I could tell that it wasn’t 100% cab. A shame about the price increase - the days of sub-$100 appear to be over for this wine. Take care.
