Varietal:89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec from 73% estate & 27% grower vineyards: 33% Banca Dorada Vineyard (Rutherford), 15% Las Rocas Vineyard and 10% Barboza Vineyard (Stags Leap), 15% Home Ranch Vineyard (St. Helena) and 27% Coombsville, St. Helena and Napa growers.
Area/Appellation: Napa Valley
Vintage: 2001. Price: $259 From Anton’s Vintage Wine Inventory
Color: Opaque, dark ruby, purple
Legs: medium
Nose: nose is very faint but i picked up Blackberries, currants, cassis,
Palate:succulent blackberries, currant, tobacco and coffee, earth
Finish: fairly drying, with cedar, tobacco leaf, coffee,
Comments: 2.5 hour decant with some minor rusticity this is drinking really well, aged Insignia has always intrigued me lots of secondary characteristics showing up now and is becoming intriguing.
Pairing Suggestions: ribeye, venison, roast duck, the usual suspects,
