Saturday, May 23, 2009 - Memorial Day weekend tasting, 2008 Oregon Pinot Noir barrel samples (Northern Willamette Valley): The aromas here are so soft and beautiful. Smells like soft, wild, but somehow feral strawberries. Very tannic in the mouth showing big drying fruit, soil, and lots of leather. Lots of tannins on the finish, but it does smooth out a few seconds later. This is a very big wine to be drinking today. Needs plenty of time to come together. Scott Wright was mentioning that this is a bit oaky for his liking, but I didn't find the oak intrusive at all.
