Friday, December 12, 2008 - hmmmmm, always a conundrum to talk about a wine you can't really get worked up over when you care about the success of the owner/winemaker. maggie harrison is a true gem, and i want her to succeed. unfortunately, this wine doesn't match my palate. i drink precious few oregon pinots in the first place, and i only sought this out for one reason: maggie. as a calibration, i like soter beacon hill, several ken wrights, and the 98,02,03 sqns from the shea vineyard. this is more a personal palate failure than the wine. it's easy to recognize the compact, well structured fruit, and a good balance to the component parts. there is a (very) earthy, black cherry, almost stemmy quality to the fruit, but not green. fans of the genre are going to have a field day with this wine. now, about that lillian...
